My students are eager to learn and eager to please! They are kind and considerate of their fellow classmates, and strive to do their best work. I have one pre-k class, five kindergarten classes, five first grade classes, and four second grade classes. My students love books, visiting the school library, and hearing new stories, and are very inquisitive about the world around them. They are quick to make connections from books we read in library to events in their own lives, and often offer great insight.
My Project
My students have been participating in reader's theater and although I can film them using the school iPad, we are unable to get good sound quality, so desperately need a microphone. We also need a tripod to keep the iPad steady and secure during filming. In addition to reader's theater, I would also use these items to film student and staff book talks to put on the library's blog, which would generate interest in reading new books and help the students presenting to work on their summarizing skills.
The library has a projector that I would like to use to show the student reader's theater productions and book talks, but unfortunately the school issued speakers have such poor sound quality I am unable to use it with my classes.
I would use it to support other parts of the library curriculum too, such as teaching about the Maine Chickadee Book Award, using the Marvel databases through the Maine State Library, and virtual field trips and author visits.
