If students are to be college and career ready, we need to provide hands-on technology opportunities. With tablets and guided instruction, students will be able to take on more responsibility for their own learning and help them become ethical and effective users of technology.
We have gifted and talented classes for students in 4th through 6th grades who are high academic achievers in science and math.
These youngsters have potential to be great leaders, but sometimes they do not receive the all of the resources they deserve or need because of limited school budgets. Having more access to technology would allow these students to have more relevant experiences with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
My Project
If the 5 requested tablets are funded for our classroom, there are really unlimited uses and learning opportunities for our students...they can use the tablets for research, connect with professionals in various parts of the world, practice keyboarding skills, help with science fair projects, and even help students reflect on their own learning by having access to previous assignments or assessments at the touch of a button (or screen!). We will have more opportunities to use web-based math programs to boost student performance in all math strands. We will also use the tablets with our digital textbooks that are being offered for the first time for our gifted and talented science students starting in the upcoming school year. Tablets will really help individualize learning and help students progress at their own rates. Technology and web-based programs would also help the school reduce paper usage!
Providing students with appropriate tools for education would significantly impact their learning and future success with technology.
Building a foundation with technology will help these students become comfortable with our technological world and spark interest/motivation for even new uses. Hopefully we will able to have this project funded and support these strong students reach their high learning goals.
