Help me give my students an iPad and stylus pen that will improve my teaching instruction through distance learning and allow students to make their own short videos once we return to school!
Students within my classroom are caring, determined, and eager to learn. Each individual student has something that makes them unique and special. Together the students have decided to overcome the challenges of COVID-19 by being active leaders in our community. Seeking ways to promote social justice and kindness, students are being asked to make connections to what they are learning and the real world daily and come up with solutions that will make our school better together.
Students will be working collaboratively and remotely to learn and share ideas of how they can positively impact the world.
Our classroom is full of students with different learning abilities and interests. Each student has set individual goals of the year and wants to succeed. After getting to know each other the first few weeks of school, the students have established an inclusive and supportive community where all are welcomed and they are encouraged to take risks and learn from their mistakes! Hoping to build confidence and a safe environment during times of uncertainty, we need your help!
My Project
My class is filled with 5th grade students with different learning abilities and learning style preferences. When teaching in the classroom, I find many ways to reach each individual student using a variety of strategies, but when tasked with doing it through a computer, it becomes much harder to feel as though I am truly providing all that each student needs.
My students have been resilient learners through COVID-19 and appreciate all the technology we currently have, but an iPad will allow us to take our learning to an even deeper level of understanding!
Together, my students and I have learned to adapt to our new environment. We have yet to meet in person as a class and don't know when we will step inside our classroom walls next. Despite the uncertainty, my students have continuously kept a positive attitude; however, I have noticed over the past four weeks that students are struggling to grasp the math concepts because I don't have the ability to demonstrate the problems the way I would in class. With an iPad, I will be able to draw visual models, annotate, and provide better feedback for students on their individual work. I will also be able to record videos modeling the use of manipulatives and teach students a larger variety of strategies. In addition, this is a tool that students will eventually be able to use when they return. On the iPad students will learn coding using Ozobots and iMovie. Finally, this will allow me to quickly display videos, pictures, and documents to the projector using our Apple TV. This iPad will increase student engagement, support student learning, and give the students something exciting to look forward to when they return!
