My students need iPads in the classroom to enrich our everyday learning experience. Being a school that is brand new to Title I, we don't have the technology we need to help our bilingual learners.
We are a newly Title I and PYP classroom full of eager learners from diverse backgrounds.
Being the change you wish to see in the world, is at the heart of our classroom.
We truly believe that we can change the world through our actions. This year we have invited new students from a different region to join our school to help with overcrowding from their previous school. With that being said, our school has doubled in size in just over a month. We have embarked on a new adventure of welcoming students from very diverse backgrounds and are learning how to provide an equal learning experience in the classroom for everyone!
Having such a diverse group of students, means that we have all different kinds of learning styles in our classroom as well. My students enjoy using technology to enhance and differentiate lessons on a personal level. We collaborate in small groups for math and reading. One desire we have is to create a bilingual library where all students can read in their native language at school. We also love working on independent projects that are apart of our IB curriculum and learning through multi sensory activities!
My Project
Being a school that is brand new to Title 1, we don't have the technology we need to help our Bilingual and Spanish speaking learners have the same everyday school experience as our English speaking learners do. We need a few classroom iPads to help English Language Learners listen to fluent readers and develop literacy skills in their spoken native language as well as in English.
Having technology in the classroom is like giving half my class private language tutors while they are still in the general education learning environment.
It is a critical part of their daily learning experience to learn in Spanish alongside learning in English. The theory goes that if English language learners can read, write, and speak in their naive language, they will build the skills necessary to learn how to read, write and speak in English as well. Learning in this dual language style of teaching helps students master literacy skills at a much quicker rate and build self confidence.
