My students are both your typical middle-schoolers, and yet unique in many ways. They come from an extremely diverse neighborhood in the north part of Chicago. Many students are second-generation immigrants who were born in the United States but have parents and family from all over the world. This unique circumstance exposes students to many types of cultures and backgrounds, and also offers students a chance to learn about the world directly in their own community. It also challenges students in many ways, such as learning a second language.
The economic background of my students is also extremely varied.
As with cultural backgrounds, the varied economic backgrounds provide students with a distinct experience, but can also offer challenges for some students. Many students are provided with resources, however, several others have much higher needs for support.
In general, public education is at risk regardless of location. Chicago Public Schools has experienced an extreme dip in funding at a state level that has been discriminatory, but also incredibly detrimental to student learning. Extra support for resources will help close the gap to allow students in our diverse community a fair and equal education.
Thank you in advance for your support!
My Project
In our increasingly technological society, the use of electronic tools is now essential to learning. Students of today must grow and improve their literacy skills of reading and writing in a traditional way, but also through the use of computers. The requested 15 Chromebooks are a perfect tool to assist students in learning research skills, writing skills, and overall proficiency with technology.
In our classroom, the Chromebooks will be used for online practical experience, research, communication, and most importantly: WRITING!
With the use of Chromebooks, it is also my goal to allow students to display their work through actual printed products. The printer ink and printer paper will both be used so that students can edit, share, and exhibit their work. Overall the Chromebooks, printer ink, and paper will all be invaluable tools to support my students grow in their writing.
