I have the pleasure of teaching some of the greatest kids in the world. Every day when I greet them, I am honored to have their little hearts and minds in my care. My students are a diverse group of learners who love to discover new things. They are dreamers, thinkers, and questioners; they are our future.
Here in Ogden Utah, our students are very diverse.
My school in particular has students from a variety of different backgrounds. All of my students have special needs and special ways of learning. It may take them longer to learn, but they are learning. About a half of my class is made up of English Language Learners and more than half of the students attending our school receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. There is no bussing at our school because it is a neighborhood school that most students are able to walk to. This creates such a wonderful culture of belonging and community, where students respect themselves, others, and their school.
My Project
I teach in a new STEM school where technology is a major tool in the classroom. I want to promote STEM lessons and activities with technology because my students are often discouraged when they struggle to do the projects their peers are doing in the regular classroom. I'd like to bring the same motivating opportunities into my moderate special education classroom to allow my students to feel successful.
Students will use these three iPad minis to communicate, research, investigate, and learn.
They will become readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and engineers. Students will learn academics and life skills using these iPads and the many apps available.
