My Students

My students this year are both ELL and DLE. This means that some are learning Spanish as their second language and others are English language learners. Unfortunately prior to this year the dual language learners did not receive as much exposure to the second language, therefore they are struggling to learn the language. My students are very hard workers and they truly try to translate and understand what I am teaching in their second language.

My students come from various home environments.

This I believe helps them work together and share their back ground knowledge and make connections to the material being taught. They truly create a community of learning and use their strengthens to make up for their weaknesses.

My Project

Tablets for my classroom will be a great way for students to have a faster way of translating in their second language. In our dual language program we have tow blocks. This means that we have limited time with our students. I teach subjects in Spanish. This means that my English dominant students have to translate into English. My second graders do the best they can with dictionaries we have in our room, but it takes them a long time to do it.

Tablets will help my students translate much quicker, so they have time to go into he actual content of the lesson and not just the language aspect.

The use of this technology in our classroom will also enable us to use websites that teach language, such as Dualingo. This will give my students an opportunity to practice more of their second language and with visuals.
