Can you imagine trying to go to school and understand what is being taught, when you do not understand the language? That is what many of our students have to do each and every day. Our English Language Learners are working hard to learn English, but they would love some help!
Our ELL students attend public school in Ohio.
Some have been in this country for a year or two, but many have just arrived in the United States within the year.
They work VERY hard to learn the English language. They attempt to speak English both conversationally and in academic settings.
Their ESL teacher and their classroom teachers work very hard to modify assignments, and to teach students the vocabulary they need to succeed.
My Project
Brain Pop ESL is a computer program that students will be able to use in the classroom. Three students are able to log on simultaneously. This program is AMAZING! It teaches children English by using short, animated videos. Videos range from the most basic English ("Hi. My name is Juan. Say your name.") to content area language (latitude and longitude for social studies).
Brain Pop ESL addresses all areas of learning a new language: Listening, speaking, reading, and eventually writing.
Children hear the language being spoken in the videos, repeat the language, see picture clues to learn vocabulary, see the written words, and eventually write about each video.
There are online, interactive quizzes that go with each video. Students begin at whatever level of language they need.
Any help that you could give my hard-working English Language Learners would be GREAT!
You are helping students attain the language they need, the foundation need for a lifetime of social and academic success in the United States. THANK YOU!
