By the end of the school year, I want recall and retention of math facts, 0-20, for each of my students. Part of my challenge in attaining this has been a lack of resources in my students' hands. This project allows hands-on training while also activating alternate learning methods.
I have 18 1st-graders in my classroom who each have their own story to share and come from very different backgrounds.
My classroom is the language inclusion classroom this year for 1st grade. This means I have a few students who are bright children but have difficulty understanding and expressing themselves through basic language.
My Project
My plan for the tablets is to put them into my students hands every day. The tablets will be placed in my math centers for the students to increase their recall of math facts. I plan on using math game and flash card applications to engage my students. The consistent immersion in directed activities should increase the knowledge and recall of the students' math facts.
This project serves more than a single purpose.
The most obvious and direct correlation is the improvement of mathematical skills and knowledge in general. Additionally, many of my students have little to no access to technology outside of the classroom. This project not only allows access to technology, but also teaches additional techniques and protocol for technology-based learning. This skill will be invaluable throughout their educational career.
