My students need reliable and consistent access to technology. We are currently sharing 60 chromebooks for 160 students and 7 teachers. Students often have to do without access to technology because there is simply not enough.

My Students

As a 6th grade US History teacher, I teach every student in the 6th grade, all gifted students, all inclusion special education students, all self contained special education students. Our school is a public school with students in grades K-6 with approximately 900 students. Class sizes range from 21-32 depending on the grade and course. The school is located in a small rural county south of Washington, D.C. Our district has a large number of military families as well as commuter families. A significant number of students are considered economically disadvantaged. We also have a significant number of at risk students. High speed Internet is not fully available in our county. We are a small, growing community with big dreams!

My Project

Adding five Amazon fire tablets to my U.S. History classroom will provide consistent access to technology for 160 6th grade students. Students will be able to research topics and work collaboratively with peers on projects. Currently we are sharing 60 chromebooks for 160 students. This results in non tested subjects, like U.S History,going without daily access to technology. With more technology my students can take charge of their learning and participate in extensive opportunities such as google classroom, group projects, pod casts, researching historical events, people and places, etc. to enhance the classroom instruction. With additional technology students will have information at their fingertips.
