Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students lack the necessary technology that so many others take for granted. If they are to achieve career status in today’s society, they need our help. So I have dedicated myself to provide hands-on learning and use up-to-date teaching tools as often as possible.
I teach at a Title 1, elementary school where 100% of the students receive free lunch in a largely ELL populated area.
Often times, our families are not able to support the students in ways that are necessary. Many times both parents are working and unable to assist with learning at home. Although they face many challenges both in and out of school, my students are hard workers. They never give up. They love learning and are eager for a challenge.
My Project
With the iPad minis, my students can open doors to a whole new world of learning. They can use apps to foster phonics and reading concepts, and hearing the language would help their receptive vocabulary. Writing and publishing their own stories using the iPad minis is also a goal of mine. Math applications would allow my students to understand numbers, and special relations, shapes and so much more! I would like to expose them to technology in a positive atmosphere where I teach them not only the uses but also the responsibility which accompanies the use of electronic devices. Kindergarten students need hands-on learning materials that will keep those little minds engaged.
