Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a proud teacher of 16 little bodies with big minds. From kindergarten through second grade, they may be small right now, but they have big dreams to succeed.
Growing up in a high poverty area, these students always seem to be getting cut short of the materials and opportunities they need to help them grow.
Our class includes students with ADHD, autism, ODD, and communication impairment. My kiddos use their abilities to grow each day and never cease to amaze me.
1 teacher. 16 eager minds. With the right materials, I know we can be on our way to fixing this education gap, one day at a time.
My Project
My students need two Acer Chromebooks to help them better grow their reading levels and independence during small group time. As our classroom is a language and learning disabled classroom, we are in small group instruction all day.
My students have come so far with their independence.
From September until now, I am so proud of the progress they have made.
Chromebooks will make their small group learning that much more productive. Many of my students cannot read at the grade level they are in. Still teaching them on grade level in our class can be a struggle, as their small group instruction time is where they independently work with their peers who are at or around the same level as them and problem solve to read or complete math problems.
Their comprehension is growing and the struggle comes when the text is not exactly to their level- even though we try to provide resources as close to their level as possible. I do not want my students becoming frustrated with the text and in turn, not love reading! RAZ KIDS is an amazing resource we use on our limited technology and would love for it to be expanded to a few more students with these chromebooks. This allows every student to read as well as have books read to them and questions read to them as well.
Help us reach our reading goal of growing 2 more reading levels before the end of the school year. With added resources, I know we can get there!
