My students need 4 computers to have more access to technology at school because many of them do not have it at home and are missing this important learning opportunity.
In a world where almost everything is driven by technology, students need access to it in order to be prepared for life beyond school. Many of my students do not have a working computer or Internet access at home, making it crucial that they have this experience at school as much as possible.
We are a 4th grade class of inspired learners from Wisconsin.
We set high goals for our learning and do everything we can to promote lifelong learning.
Many of my students come from homes that cannot provide the access to technology that students need to be successful. We currently have five desktop computers in our room, but with over 20 students, they are not enough. Any work we do on computers or the Internet needs to be done during the school day, which requires more computers.
My students learning, and preparation for life, could be taken so much farther with some extra classroom technology.
My Project
Chromebooks are the ideal computer for the classroom! Lightweight and easy to use, Chromebooks make it easy to put technology in the hands of my students.
With Chromebooks, my students can develop e-portfolios to store their writing. They can write blog posts about their learning and book reviews on KidBlog. They can receive daily math practice and intervention using MobyMax. They can collaborate with others -- both inside the classroom or around the world -- on inquiry based learning projects.
Students who use technology in schools every day are more energized and enthusiastic learners who push themselves beyond their learning comfort zones. Chromebooks have been classroom tested and have achieved amazing results!
I can't imagine what my life would be like if I didn't have daily access to my computer and the Internet.
