My students need a classroom set of graphing calculators.

"Mathematics is not about numbers, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about UNDERSTANDING." William Paul Thurston
Our school is located in the heart of downtown Birmingham and consists of over 700 students with 99% minority enrollment.
Despite being challenged with 59% of the students being economically disadvantaged, 76% of the students participate in advanced placement courses. My class consists of 140 energetic students in 10th to 11th grade in Pre-AP Algebra II with Trigonometry that range on the extremes of socioeconomic status. Our class offers a wide range of upbringings and resources available to provide a diverse spectrum of collaboration and learning.
My dream for my students is to not only become comfortable with technology in my classroom, but to continue into their academic, college, and career with this advancement in technology. Graphing calculators will provide students a visual representation of charts, data, and a wealth of new potential. Pre-AP Algebra II with Trigonometry curriculum weights heavily on the ability to graph multiple functions and apply their use to real-world examples. Through the use of the graphing calculators, students will be able to better visualize the importance of these functions and apply their use to problems involving stocks, interest rates, probability and statistics, etc.
With my students' and school's limited funds for classroom supplies, graphing calculators are not readily available for every student.
By providing a classroom set of graphing calculators, students will become comfortable with the ease and benefit of the technology resources for standardized assessments and future technology advancements.
