My students are an amazing bunch of children who come from a variety of ethnic and lower socioeconomic backgrounds. During the school year, they have become a close community of friends. The best quality I can share about my students is they are incredibly kind and supportive of each other. This is one of the essential ingredients to foster a good healthy learning environment.
These fabulous first grade students will be learning about the importance of reading, and essential comprehension skills.
We're a large Title I school in a low socioeconomic urban area. Unfortunately, these students have little, if any, grade appropriate reading material available to them at home. They would benefit significantly by having access to computers for an online reading program. Access to this program will go a long way in helping them read and learn.
As the world becomes more high tech and evolved in computers, our students are being left behind. They don't have computer resources at home to use. The common core curriculum requires students to have keyboarding skills. In the first grade, I have witnessed my students sit at a computer screen blankly, being unfamiliar with the mouse, along with the enter and number keys.
Getting familiar with technology.
The use of these computers in the classroom will provide the students will practical experience in technology. The students will be able to play academic games. They will also be able to learn about science. They can watch videos about the weather, animals, physics and movement.
