Help me give my students iPads and the use of technology in their classroom to help build their confidence and to develop 21st Century learning skills.
Our small, rural school district houses students from K – 12th grade in one building. The population of our Title 1 district is considered low income because of the high number of students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. Many of my students struggle in school, both with behavior and academics, because of events or family circumstances that are out of the student’s control. My classroom must be a safe place for them to explore, learn, grow, and be themselves. I look forward to learning with my students each and every day.
My 4th grade students are go-getters!
They learn best when I get them actively involved in the lessons. These kids enjoy learning from each other and working together to solve problems or make a discovery. When you enter our classroom, you will see this group of students spread out working at the various work spaces around the room. Active, hands-on lessons allow students to build confidence and learn social problem-solving skills all while developing their academic skills.
My Project
I asked for 2 iPads for the students in my 4th grade classroom. These iPads will support many learning objectives in our classroom, both academic and social.
These iPads will not only support our learning with 21st Century technology, but will also enable us to collaborate, problem solve, and develop our ability to persevere using 21st Century skills.
The iPads we receive for our classroom will be put to use the very day we receive them. We will use this tool for a wide range of lessons and activities including learning to code with Spheroes and Dash and Dot robots, and using programs such as Code.org and Minecraft. Our math, reading, and writing skills will be improved through apps such as Flipgrid, Accelerated Reader, and MobyMax. We will be able to record ourselves reading to help us become better readers and encourage practice. Most of these applications require collaboration with a peer thus developing character skills too.
