Technology Supports for Assisted and Autonomous Learning
My students need better tech options. These iPads will provide more options for students with learning differences while also creating more autonomous learning options for students who get ahead of class and need a challenge.
Our school is located near Salt Lake City, UT. We are one of the only Title I schools in our district and serve an uncommonly (for Utah) diverse and challenging group of students.
My students come from all walks of life -- refugees, immigrants, learning disabled, homeless, etc -- and it is a daily struggle to get them engaged in the classroom in meaningful ways.
I especially struggle with students who have inadequate supports and examples at home. Using engaging materials from a variety of quality sources ensures successful classroom learning experiences for my students every day.
My Project
My students need more technology options to support their individual needs in my classroom. In every class I have a wide array of learning needs -- English Language Learners, individualized educational plans, behavioral concerns, kids that fly through material quickly, etc.. I have been struggling to find innovative ways to get them engaged on their level.
iPads provide more activities and flexibility to help engage my struggling students who otherwise would feel lost and unmotivated to learn complex technology and business ideas; on the flip side, the iPads would provide challenging opportunities for my top students to engage in autonomous learning experiences while they wait for the rest of class to catch up.
I will use this technology to engage students on their level and create better assistive and autonomous learning experiences.
I always have a handful of kids who are EXTREMELY motivated, skilled, and interested in what we are learning. They usually finish their projects days before everyone else and are always wanting to do more.Yet, since I'm helping other students who need more attention, I can't give them the attention and challenges I'd like. As a result these students usually end up just playing games or looking at their phones. I want to take better advantage of this time!
Using the iPads, I can create autonomous learning experiences to help push my students to explore the curriculum in more depth and develop important tech and business skills. They would be able to "Choose Their Own Adventure" and develop their skills rather than waste their time waiting for the class to catch up to them. With these tools, I'll be better equipped to help both groups of students without feeling like I am letting anyone down.
