I teach fifth grade to a wonderful group of low-income/military students. The majority of my students are low income/economically disadvantaged students. These student try hard, but sometimes don't have all the tools necessary to succeed.
School is an important part of the lives of my students.
Many come from single parent homes and have many responsibilities outside of the school. These students have various learning styles and different educational needs. Success in school is very important for their future success and for ours as a country.
My Project
My students need ear buds to help them use their technology. My school has a one to one technology to student ratio. Because of this, I am able to use technology throughout the day. My classroom is flipped which means that students access videos and other online material to learn the information and then I meet with them in small group to reinforce and practice it. This allows them to take ownership for their learning and allows me to focus on the student's specific needs and differentiate the classroom instruction.
Ownership in learning creates responsible citizens.
Research has proven that students become more critical thinkers and learn information on a more permanent basis when they take ownership in their learning. The stools I have requested will allow me to work with the students in small groups without moving chairs around the room. Students need small group to reinforce the information they learn from technology and to practice skills.
