Technology Support Needed For A Dynamic Innovative Classroom
My students need an iPad for the classroom to use for various technology-based lessons and learning opportunities, including (but certainly not limited to) online classroom discussions/blogging, leveled texts, and apps that support content taught in class.
Teaching at a Title 1 school; a large portion of my students recieve free and reduced breakfast and lunch. Some days it can be hard for students to transition into the school day. But no matter what goes on in my students lives I strive to let them know that I believe in them and that they can do anything!
I have a great group of kids who love to learn and support each other.
They challenge one another and think outside the box in their writing, when solving math problems, and when reading. They always look foward to trying new activities and are excited to learn, experiment, create, explore, and read. When my students enter the classroom they know they are loved, respected, and safe to explore new things and take chances.
My Project
As the world becomes more reliant on technology, teachers must change and adapt our classrooms to include technology-based curriculum. Students (even as young as 1st graders) openly accept the idea of incorporating technology into daily life. Often times our students respond better to instruction that includes technology and are more engaged in the content being taught. In our classroom, we plan to use our classroom ipad to supplement curriculum and instruction. For example, when exploring various units throughout the year, we will open online chat rooms such as Todaysmeet.com so that I can pose thought-provoking questions for my students to answer digitally throughout the day. We also plan on using Wonderopolis.com to ask real questions about the world and find relevant answers. To meet the individual reading needs of each child we will use the app Epic. This app allows students to personalize their reading selections according to their individual interests. All of these apps and websites allow me to create a collaborative enviornment where my students know and understand that what they share is valued and appreciated. We will also, of course, use our iPad to conduct research regarding a topic or subject relevant to the lesson at hand. With a classroom iPad, the online tools and resources that my students will have at their fingertips will help us create the type of dynamic, up-to-date classroom that we need in our modern culture and society.
