My students need 10 Chromebooks and headphones for our classroom so students can use them on a daily basis, instead of using the shared laptops among our four grade level classes.
Students look forward to using technology to improve their academic skills. There are so many great websites out there for students to use and learn while having fun! Each day they ask, "Are we using the computers today?’" and have sad expressions when I respond, "Not today."
Our school of approximately 700 students is a diverse population with over ten different languages spoken throughout our school.
Our district also participates in the CEP (Community Eligibility Provision), which allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications.
Despite their cultural differences and the many obstacles students face in and out of school, each day they show up to school with a smile wanting to learn and have fun!
My Project
Having a set of Chromebooks and headphones within our classroom will open up many learning possibilities for students across the curriculum. Students can visit GetEpic and access books in a digital format that may not be available in print within our school. They can also work on math skills not yet mastered by signing in to their MobyMax account.
Students need access to technology, more now than ever, to keep up with the ever changing world of technology.
They want to use technology and are engaged in learning when using digital platforms. Currently, our grade level of approximately 90 students shares a laptop cart of hand-me-down laptops that work when they want to. This grant will allow students to use technology more frequently and learn skills now that will help them forever.
