My classroom is made up of 23 students who come from various types of families. I teach 1st grade at a Title I school with about 315 students. Many of my students come from low-income families. With a free and reduced lunch rate at 67%, most of my students eat breakfast and lunch at school.
My students are curious and like to solve problems!
They come to school eager to learn. They love learning and researching different things such as spiders and penguins. They love to build and create things, too! They have been working very hard this year to become more fluent readers and writers. They have been working hard on math facts as well. They are becoming more and more independent each day.
We do a lot of small groups and stations during reading and math. We are constantly moving throughout the day. My students love any type of technology they can get their hands on. They are so engaged when they are using technology!
My Project
My students are in small group or stations for about 70 percent of the day. Keeping 23 first grade students on task for that amount of the day is challenging. I want an iPad to provide meaningful reading and math resources to keep my students engaged while in their stations.
Students will be able to listen to stories, play educational games, conduct research, and work on math facts with this type of technology.
The iPad can be used for several purposes throughout the day and will benefit 23 students on a daily basis. My students are mesmerized by technology. This would provide an exciting new adventure for them!
