Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Welcome to our bilingual class. After Hurricane Harvey hit our community really hard two years ago, our students are ready to come back this new school year and maximize their learning. We are a Title I school with more than 90% of our students being economically disadvantaged. About 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 80% are at-risk of not graduating college.
Regardless of their circumstances and challenges our students face on a day to day basis, I see future engineers, lawyers, doctors and teachers in them.
Each day my goal is to motivate them and teach them the skills they require to move forward in their educational goals. It’s my belief that a person’s economic situation should never impede them from reaching their true potential.
My Project
My hope for this iPad is for students to have a different platform in which to connect the classroom to real life. Our students will be able to utilize this iPad in many ways. A major component in our grade is literacy. Students will be able to read books using Reading A-Z, Tumble Books, and Overdrive. The headphones will give them the privacy they need to stay focused and engaged.
My mathematicians, readers, and authors will be able to access a multitude of free apps that will spark meaningful conversations.
Providing these opportunities will give students the learning experiences they need to build the confidence they need to remain lifelong learners and be prepared for their education at a secondary level.
