Mrs. Tard from Trenton NJ is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need one Apple iMac desktop computer for interactive notebooks, portfolios and journal writing books.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are busy in my classroom each day. The expectations for elementary students is tremendous. In addition to performing reading, writing, and mathematics, students are expected to be proficient enough in technology to complete assessments.
I teach 40 elementary students ELL’s (English Language Learners) in an urban community where they have so much joy in learning and constantly experiencing life as they know it.
ELL’s must overcome many challenges, including limited schooling, trauma, and poverty. Some ELL’s come from countries where education is not mandated. There are ELL’s that travel and are constantly moving from one school to another. There are also ELL’s who may attend school in their native country, but the quality of education is less than the U.S. Students experiencing trauma due to war, natural disaster, or dramatic poverty is critical to their development. I want my students to enjoy learning English through interactive technology. Interactive learning is a more hands-on, real-world process of relaying information in classrooms.
I would love to be able to provide my students with additional opportunities to use and become proficient in technology. Students would be able to use this computer to publish writing, play math and language games and also do research during our non-fiction book studies. Not only will this computer help them with content, it will also familiarize them with using a keyboard and a mouse. Right now they only go to Computer Lab once a week for 40 minutes.
My students value becoming proficient in technology.
We have a very diverse group of students with a predominant Spanish community majority of approximately 50%. Students will be able to be more hands on in their learning. They will be able to create interactive portfolio with the Mac Desktop computer, where as now we are restricted to paper and pencil activities. Students show interest and ability to grow with this technology
