Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Middle School in a Title 1 school, meaning we service students from impoverished areas. We are also an environmental science magnet school so we get students bused in from all over our city. Our school is in dire need of good technology. Our district has given funds for student technology, however they have done so very slowly.
I am a science teacher with a big technology background.
I have used several different computer applications such as Microsoft office, Nearpod.com, Kahoot, and several others. This technology has brought my classroom to life and has truly impacted my students abilities and love for science.
Due to tight budget constraints we cannot replace old or damaged technology. I am asking for help to keep great technology at these students fingertips and to continue to put technology into other teachers hands.
My Project
We are in need of computers for my students, as it has been hard to replace old or damaged laptops. I have chosen some basic refurbished ones that will do the trick. Technology has opened my students eyes to science and literacy. We use them to web chat professionals, create posters, communicate with each other, and see powerful visuals, go through virtual field trips, create powerful presentations, and easily annotate text.
The technology has helped my students understand and really dig deep into the world of science.
We have also used to watch labs we could not otherwise to view in person.
