My students are hungry to learn and use technology. I am one of the few teachers in my school without a Smartboard. I use a projector to add technology, but this isn't as interactive as having an iPad or Smartboard.
My school is a small school in a rural area located near the beach.
The families in this area are typically middle class to lower middle class. The students in my class are adorable five and six-year-old children who have a thirst for learning. These children are in a full day kindergarten classroom.
My Project
I envision the children in my classroom using the materials during center time. They can use the iPads alone or with a partner to practice skills and learn new skills in both math and ELA. I will be able to download applications to modify instruction, so I will be able to meet the various needs of the children. I do not have a full time assistant in my classroom, so the students will be able to go to this center with little or no assistance and meet success.
My classroom has very limited technology.
The students often ask when they can go to the library to use the Smartboard or laptops. They find technology exciting and interactive. They have grown up with the use of technology, yet my classroom is so limited. I often feel badly that we are one of the two classrooms in our school that does not have a Smartboard. I feel my students will benefit by using technology to continue to grow as learners as well as keep up with the changing times.
