We have an amazing group of students from a very diverse population. Students from all sorts of backgrounds. Almost 50% of our students receive free or reduced lunch and many do not have computers at home that would allow them to access the technology that is available to them.
Students want to use technology!
"When students use iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, widgets, online tools and a plethora of other digital devices, technology provides a path to learning that students are eager to follow. Why ask them to unplug at the schoolhouse door?" (teachhub)
Our students have their individual differences but most of them share something in common, they have a desire to learn!
My Project
“In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past.” (National Science Foundation)
Technology is a critical component of everyone's life.
Unlike when I was growing up, children today are surrounded by technology. Students are expected to be fluent with computers, as well as, the vast amount of programs that are being utilized in the workplace. However, many of my students do not have daily access to these devices. I repeatedly tell my students to use the internet as a research or study tool and have heard countless times, "We don't have the internet at home!"
My hope is to provide access to these devices in school so these children are not "behind the 8-ball" when they get into high school and into the workforce. The students should recognize the library of information they have at their fingertips and that these Chromebooks will allow them to research and learn what is important to them!
