Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful young men and women trying their hardest to overcome the challenges that surround them. Unfortunately, due to the many different circumstances, they have been labeled as "at risk" youth. All of my students are over aged and undercredited, have some experience with the justice system, and come from a range of challenging backgrounds. Regardless of those facts, my students are interesting, intelligent, energetic and deserving as any other student. With your support, I will work diligently to ensure they get everything they need in order to thrive and succeed.
My Project
My students have grown up in a multimedia driven world. Their primary access for information comes from a wide variety of media sources, including YouTube, streaming video apps and social media. As 21st Century Digital Citizens, they spend a tremendous amount of time consuming video from the internet. I need help moving them from being just content consumers. I want them to become the content creators.
As they learn to distinguish the quality of media sources online (legitimate sources from poor sources), my students need help moving beyond being media consumers, and growing into content producers.
With your help, I will build a 21st Century Newsroom, in which students can create multimedia content using modern tools and processes with real world applications.
Specifically, we need access to the type of camera used by professional bloggers, streamers, photographers and journalist. We will use this camera to document all the successes we have in the classroom. We will also use the camera, green screen and lights, to create a professional, weekly news show within our classroom. With your help, we can help prepare my amazing students to compete with anyone in a 21st century landscape.
