This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
A typical day in our classroom is very busy. We are jam packed with math, guided reading, reading, writing, guided math, and then either music or PE. My students are awesome and have such great attitudes even though home lives are hard. We really work on teaching the whole child.
My students are from Flint, which is a city with a lot of struggles.
Our school really does have a great welcoming environment. My students are second graders who really like to do creative things. They have quite the imagination! They are full of humor and are so very smart. Some just need a bit more help to be on grade level. The goal is to have my students not only ready for third grade but ready for their future. Technology is the way of the future, and our students do not have a lot of opportunities to use good technology.
My Project
I know that asking for 1 iPad is small, but my classroom does not have other technology outside of a smartboard. The computer lab for the whole school (K-8) has less than 25 laptops. The majority of the laptops have multiple missing keys. Most classrooms have at least one computer, our classroom has none. This iPad could be using for reading, math practice, fluency practice, letter sounds, and so many more things. We would use them EVERYDAY! My students would be using the iPad to improve reading, math and grammar.
Technology is our future and unfortunately my students do not get a lot of exposure of helpful technology on an individual basis.
My students already come from a disadvantaged place so my job is to provide them with opportunities for success.
