This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a world of growing technology, in my classroom and in their lives, my students have very little access to technology we see in everyday life now.
Can you imagine not having a home?
Can you imagine having to take care of yourself and two younger siblings every morning? Can you imagine being an 'adult' at 8 years old? For many students in my classroom, this is a reality. That is why they desperately need a classroom they can call home!
My children, students, however you would refer to them, are amazing, mature, and talented beyond belief, and sadly they do not realize what the world has to offer them. Our school is centered in a high poverty area with over 98% of the students qualifying for free lunch. The children who attend our school are also very mobile. There are few children who start off the year in my classroom and end the year in my classroom. However, despite the challenges that face my children daily, challenges that I could have never imagined before teaching here, they come to school and give me 100% every day. Therefore, I feel it is my duty and responsibility to give them 110%
My Project
I am requesting an iPad for my students. I have slowly built up a few technology resources in my classroom, however, I have not been able to purchase an iPad for my students. I know that an iPad would spark every one of their interest. There are so many apps available to help students, from students who are low in reading to students who are high in reading. There will be something for everyone to use. I just believe that an iPad is in invaluable resource to have in the classroom.
There are many things in life that we take for granted without realizing it.
I have learned this over the past 7 years I've spent teaching in this area. My students come to school and are excited when I am able to give them a book to read. Can you imagine how they will feel when I am able to put technology like an iPad in their hands? I hope you will consider helping me make this technology available to my students.
