My school is located in Lehi, Utah. Lehi is a high growth area with an exploding student population. This is the third year that the school has been open having split from a neighboring high school. With this being a developing area, many of the homes and families in our community are recent residents. While a young school, our students work hard to live up to the ideals presented on our school seal: integrity, excellence, and respect.
My students are living in an age of technology and they are learning how to utilize the technology available to them.
They are eager for answers and are looking for ways to further their education. I teach mostly sophomore and junior students, and they are starting to figure out how to balance life as a high school student. While they come from various backgrounds, but all seem to strive for excellence.
My Project
The world of education is changing. Teachers are utilizing the online platform like never before, both at the high school and college level. Our school district has recently adopted the CANVAS platform and as a department we have started to utilize it this year. Canvas is an online Learning Management System used by many major universities. Our school is providing supplemental resources for our students in CANVAS as well as other online resources such as MathXL, Mastery Conncet, and YouTube. This online presences allows the students to be more responsible for their education and to personally get the materials for the course.
While many of my students have personal access to technology, some of them do not.
The donations for this project will fund the ability for all of my students to access the online resources available to them. This will help them become more comfortable with the educational technology of this generation and make them more competitive in their post-high school life.
