My Students
I am a fifth grade Title One teacher in a small West Virginia town. The kids I teach are just like kids all over the country. They are good and decent and want to do the right thing. Our students are funny and intelligent. Most come to school ready to learn, but unfortunately, not all of these kids are given the best foundation. We do live in a high poverty area. Many of our students lack basic needs, let alone technology, in their home. We try hard to fill in the gaps and keep our students competitive with others across the country.
My Project
This year, as the Title One teacher for our Fith Graders, I have started coding activities with all of our students. Myself and another classroom teacher have started a Technology Club that meets after school. Response has been tremendous! It is hard to tell who is more excited, the students or the teachers! Because of the club, we are looking to incorporate new activities in with the Ozobots, Osmo, and Spheros. Our students are gaining valuable skills all the while having more fun than they thought they could at school! We have been able to incorporate math and reading activities in with our coding and technology and we are looking to add an even deeper dimension of learning by adding Dash and Dot Robots to our club. Our possibilities are endless!
