My students are from a small town on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Many of my students' family homes and businesses are still feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
My students are interested in learning about the history of our community and the history of our country.
They are of varied socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of my students have never left our small community and some are students of military families who have lived all over the world. Our school serves 9th through 12th grades. We are beginning to offer more diverse opportunities for advanced history studies (with advanced placement courses).
I would love to be completely mobile in my classroom. The wireless keyboard will help make this happen. I can add details to slides from anywhere in my classroom. I can work with students from their desks or from small groups all over the room.
Showing visuals to students is so crucial to social studies.
The external DVD player would make it possible to show students film clips, documentaries, and other resources I am unable to utilize presently. Sometimes the visual representation is the one that students remember and understand the best. This would be a welcome addition to my classroom.
