As a special educator, I will be co-teaching in the general education classroom to bring accommodations and modifications to the students in real time as the teacher is delivering instruction. These students need as many opportunities as I can possibly give them to become competitive in the world.
My students live in a small, rural area of Northern Arizona.
The majority of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch (our school is Title I). It is not surprising to hear stories of multiple families living together, or living in shelters, or moving from foster home to foster home. Needless to say, there is a lack of available resources to these students. Their academics struggle because of the lack of parental support and life experiences. Through the use of technology in the classroom, these deprived students can access that abundance of the world.
My Project
These tablets will allow the students to have academic enrichment experiences within the classroom. The students will be able to engage in videos and academic games to support what is happening in the classroom. The students will be able to get a glimpse of the world they live in. They will use the camera as a scanner to read qr codes in the habitat, play interactive learning games in the classroom, access the public library books, and so much more.
Giving these deprived students an opportunity to experience things in their world enhances their learning immeasurably!
Learning from a book can only do so much! Life experiences are always the best support for learning. When these students cannot get out of town to see what they are learning about, the teachers need to provide that as best as they can on their tight budgets.
