Mr. Sawyer from Richmond VA is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a set of classroom tablets and headphones so that they can research projects, practice math skills, and read online books in class.

I teach students in the Richmond City School District, south of downtown. The majority of students that I teach are considered economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school feeds the students breakfast, lunch, and super snack.
Many of the students come from single parent households, and a large population of the students live in section 8 housing.
Facing these challenges, the students come to school with a unique set of needs and behaviors.
The students that I am teaching respond well to positive affirmation and encouragement. They love to be helpful and often help around in the classroom.
The students also face many emotional challenges in the classroom. Many students have a hard time managing emotions, but they respond very well to positive affirmation and a calm but stern teaching approach. The students love to move around and be active in the classroom. The students have a genuine interest in learning that needs to be directed properly in the classroom.
The increased use of relevant technology is a goal of mine in the classroom this year. I have noticed that many of my students in the past had a hard time enjoying reading and math because they found many of the lessons dull or mundane. Utilizing technology is a great way to keep kids engaged and excited about learning while still practicing important reading and math skills. My students in the past loved interactive lessons on computers. This year, I want to give my class a chance to dive deeper into the world of educational technology.
By donating to this project for tablets and headphones, you will be giving my students an opportunity to explore online books, math programs, and interactive websites that will keep them engaged and exploring.
The tablets will not replace the ways I introduce new topics to the students. Instead, I will use them for projects and stations that help build upon the skills the students are already learning in class.
The students will use the tablets to read online books about educational topics they enjoy. They will also use them to practice math facts and solve logic puzzles. The tablets will make time in class both mentally stimulating and enjoyable for my students. They will be actively practicing what they learn in school without the use of busy work during class.
