I am a Kindergarten teacher in a low-income/high poverty school. With this being said sometimes my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they may face, I would like to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Our students are very bright, receptive and inquisitive when learning new skills.
The students in my room are very hands-on and intriguing when it comes to learning. I teach my students through dancing, singing, and role-playing. A portion of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Even though my students are faced with these obstacles outside of school that I can not prevent, I will do my best to provide them with an equal chance at being successful and reaching their goals. With the help of my instructional assistant, we focus on their potential and growth while they are with us. Our ultimate goal is to provide an experience of what they may not be able to experience beyond our classroom doors.
My Project
There are many different things that we could do in the classroom if we had a class set of tablets and headphones. Having a tablet allows you to get apps from the Amazon App store. Some examples of apps my students could use are explained below: 1.) Starfall: Student can Learn to Read, ABCs and Numbers 2.) Raz Kids: Students can read books on their interest level and reading level. Teachers can customize lessons for their students and track student progress. 3.) Spelling City: Spelling city is an app that allows students to practice their spelling words by playing interactive games and taking practice quizzes. In addition to apps, I can also create web quest projects and research projects on the Internet. By donating to this project, you will ensure that my students have open access to technology every day at school.
You will be giving my Kindergarten students an experience that they wouldn't have had before.
My students will get to learn how to be fluent in technology, and I will be able to design more engaging and rigorous lessons.
