My students need two Apple iPad mini WiFi Tablets in order to have technology that is accessible, up to date and works. They also need two protective cases.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a mobile teacher who travels to multiple classrooms pushing a heavy cart to provide additional instructional support to students in grades 3-5. When I go into some classrooms I feel like an astronaut looking for technology and I have to report, "Houston/Donors Choose, we have a problem!"
The students I work with are amazing!
They are eager and excited about learning. I work with a diverse group of students that struggle with math and reading. I work in an inner city school that is located in a low income area where the majority of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The students are very computer literate and technology savvy. However, their bright smiles and the sparkle in their eyes grows dim when they cannot extend their learning by using technology. I have a teacher issued laptop and no Promethean Board to use as a mobile teacher. My students have little or no access to modern technology. The computers in the classroom and computer lab are out-dated. The few tablets are NEVER AVAILABLE when I try to check them out from the Media Center. My role includes Team Teaching, but I often feel like an outsider pushing in when there is no technology available for me or for my students.Technology is a wonderful thing when it's available. The iPads will work for us.
My Project
Having the iPads will provide my students with modern technology. My students will continue to extend their learning and their increase their love for technology. The students can use the iPads independently or as a Center for differientation. Many of the assessments that students take are now computer adapted. I am amazed at the level proficiency the students in grades K-2 demonstrate. Modern technology will help me prepare my students to become 21st Century learners. It is my role as an educator to equip my students with the tools that will make them successful productive and problem solvers in a global society. Research indicates technology helps struggling students build confidence and provides students with immediate feedback in a non-threatening environment. It's an excellent tool for progress monitoring and tracking student achievement. My students are always eager to teach me new things. They enjoy role reversal and I am eager to learn from them.

When I push into classes with my instructional cart, I will have the much needed resources for my students to extend their learning. The iPads will create a stress free environment that increases instruction and time on task. No more hunting for Tablets or jocking for Computer Lab time.
