Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom are at the middle school level with a mild cognitive impairment. There is a wide range of levels within my classroom and a range of interests.
Each student deserves individual attention, which is sometimes difficult to do within a public-school setting.
Technology allows each student to work on their specific areas of need. Modern technology allows them to practice skills in Mathematics and Language Arts using a multitude of apps. They can practice their decoding skills, as well as, comprehension of English, as many students within our district are not proficient.
We also have many students that do not speak English as their first language. Technology can help them to learn English and aid staff in communication with them. We also have access to an Apple TV and would be able to do whole class instruction or activities with the iPads. Students would be able to respond to questions or do activities right from their desks. Allowing special needs students to access this technology could really help them reach their full potential.
My Project
"We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick
My special needs students do not have access to iPads within the classroom.
Having iPads to work on will allow my students to practice skills that they individually need to work on. It will enhance their literacy skills and help those that are English Language Learners. We also have access to an Apple TV so we would be able to do activities on the large TV and the students would be able to answer right from their iPads.
This is a starter iPad, as I will need many more but one is a start and my students would love to be able to use one like the rest of the school does.
