Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each child in my classroom is a unique learner who comes to school each day ready to achieve at the highest levels. As a teacher, it is my job to encourage the students to explore paths that they may not discover on their own. In my class, we use Passion Projects to achieve this learning goal.
My classroom is a buzz of activity, focused on giving kids the opportunities that they may not get elsewhere.
My 5th grade class is in a high-need, low income public school, nestled in the heart of Southern California. Each of the students in my class is a vibrant, excited learner, who looks for the next opportunity to gain knowledge.
My Project
Through this project, I am requesting three Chromebooks to increase the amount of technology the students will have access to in our classroom. My students are consistently expressing a desire to further research the science and social studies topics we are learning about in class. They are passionate about learning the ins and outs of what we are studying, as well as branching off an discovering even more about the various topics. However, with the limited access we have to technology in our classroom, this becomes difficult. In my class, though, I have been implementing Genius Hour, in which the students research their own Passion Projects, so that the students are given time to explore these passions and intellectual pursuits. Students are given the opportunity to explore and research anything they are passionate about. All of this culminates with a student-centered project, sharing what they learned with everyone in the class.
By donating the Chromebooks, you will be helping the students to realize their passions during the school day.
They will be able to use the technology to learn about their project subject, and then create some sort of project to share that with others. The Chromebooks will be key to helping the students succeed and find a passion.
