My kindergarten class is an inclusive classroom made up of students with diverse needs and from different backgrounds. These students come from a low-income community and their home placement is not always with their parents. Some of them are in foster care because of trivial and disheartening situations, but they come to school with a desire to be loved and taught.
These curious students do not always have an opportunity to experience the wonders of life and the beauty of nature, science, community, and purpose the way they should.
Their lives are hard whether it is a disability they are learning to live with or the circumstances of their home environments.
However, each and every day they manage to make it into my classroom eager to be a part of the daily routine. They are amazing, special, and worth the cause.
My Project
The use of headphones within our classroom will allow us to integrate technology in a meaningful and controlled manner. the 21 Century classroom has evolved to allow us to open the world up to our students. Currently we are restricted in this area due to broken and inadequate supplies of headphones. This has also diminished the quality each student experience due in part to the poor quality of headphones we have on hand. Many of the students in my classroom have underlying emotional or attention/focus issues. By resupplying our stock my students will be able to focus in on their current tasks without the disruption of the sound of other iPads.
In addition to enhancing their ability to be more focused learners, they are also learning to navigate the various forms of technology at their disposal.
This improvement in the learning environment increase the child's ability to capture and retain information thru the internet classroom without additional distractions. We use our iPads to enhance the quality of our learning by using apps to motivate, create intrigue, and stimulate imagination.
As with any learning experience some students grasp the information more readily. The use of headphones also allows each student to work at his or her own pace while enjoying the learning experience. I have a student who loves to engage with the other students in a way that can be very distracting to others who are attempting to learn around him. When we use the headphones he is able to focus his energy better creating a better situation for everyone.
