Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As the years have gone on, writing in the classroom slowly transitioned from paper and pen to word processing to Google Docs. As we integrate technology in the classroom, the students use online sources and means to construct essays, short writings, and reflections giving all of our students an equal opportunity to become comfortable and proficient with typing skills and word processing skills via Google Docs.
Our school is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic “neighborhood” school, serving a growing population of approximately 1140 students from fifth to eighth grade.
Our population includes students of Hispanic, European, Arabic and African-American descent. We are proud of our students and of our endeavors over the past school year and look forward to the future of our school.
We envision a school where every child is served and educated well, regardless of their cultural background or special needs, striving to educate the "whole" child within a changing, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic neighborhood.
My Project
At Richardson, we would like to integrate technology as a learning tool in the classroom. In our classroom we have a set of Chromebooks and 1 extra by a previous

We are still down a few laptops when there are class assignments using NoRedInk.com for interactive editing practice in which they can take diagnostic tests to help identify what grammar, punctuation, or other editing rules they need to practice and focus on. There is also guides and lessons throughout to help them problem solve sentences and to find mistakes to correct. They also use the computers to use their Writing website (mkaur.com) for review of class notes and work or assignments posted there for their convenience. The major use for laptops is student writing and researching using Google Docs and online sources. Students are able to peer revise using paperless methods via Google Docs and student commenting for immediate feedback. As we transitioned our essay writing from paper and pen to Google Docs, we also have a printing station set up to give students all the access to print their essays in class. As the Surface laptops are small enough, students can use them and work while researching from other sources all on their desks.
Therefore, as the students are working on an online platform, the teacher can also walk through and add in participation points, notes, take videos and pictures to partner with those notes for online student portfolios and progress monitoring.
With both simultaneously being done on the spot, this will help ensure immediate feedback and more accurate grades.
