I currently teach Algebra I in a rural community with a high migrant population. All Algebra I classes in this district are inclusion classes (Special Need students take the same classes as the General Education students).

Similar to most districts in the nation, our district is cutting back on supplies. Math classes are typically viewed as areas that don't need many supplies, so providing supplies to our department is not a district priority. Families in this district struggle to make ends meet. Purchasing their students graphing calculators is not a high priority. As a math department, we are trying to make our class as engaging as possible. The TI-Nspire is capable of allowing us to do this. It will allow students to see multiple of representations of several different types of problems. For example, students will be able to see a linear equation solved using several different methods. If one method isn't understood, their focus can be directed to a method that makes sense to them.

I hope to obtain enough graphing calculators to provide every high school math class with a set that all students can use in class. These calculators would also be available after school if a student would like to sign one out with their teacher.

I would like math class to be enjoyable and engaging for all of our students. We have found that something as simple as a graphing calculator makes the lessons more fun and easier to understand.
