Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love teaching. I have a classroom this year, filled with eighteen amazing first graders. A typical day in Miss Lawson's class involves interactive read alouds, small group reading time, math, and of course, independent reading at the library. We love learning and have a great time when doing so.
I have a class of eighteen energetic students ready to learn each and everyday.
We are located in an inner city school district where many view these students as unable/unwilling to learn. This is a class that loves coming to school. Each and everyday I read to them and they read to me. I have students that go through so much on a daily basis but still manage to come to class eager and willing to participate. Our school is extremely dedicated to student success. Our curriculum centers around literacy and we believe that it is a civil right.
My Project
I am asking for two seemingly unrelated items. Firstly, I am asking for an Apple TV for the classroom. It is important that students today are immersed in technology so that are able to function in a society that is constantly delving into the latest gadgets.
I am also requesting a class set of read to self telephones. Our class loves reading at our classroom library. I want to provide students with tools that will allow them to grow in literacy. The phones would be useful in that when reading, they can hear how they sound. Anything that doesn't sound right when read will be echoed in that child's ear. As of right now I only have 2, and a class size of 18. With the addition set, all students will be given the same opportunity for a fair education.
