Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember when your teacher would write all the notes on the chalkboard and every few minutes she would have to erase it because there wasn't enough room to display everything? Well, that is the problem we are having in the third grade.
My students are currently in the third grade and will be looping with me up to fourth grade.
They are one of the hardest working classes in the school. They are one class that participates in school clean up, essay competitions (one student won second place in the city), helping students with special needs, etc. They really devote their time and care about their education and becoming better citizens of the world. As they aspire to do great things it very difficult for them to learn and compete with other students of their age because they lack a large competent in education: technology. As a low income school in the inner city of Chicago my students are provided only with what I purchase for them. We do not have any computers that students are allowed to use or learn how to type with. All lessons are taught via lecture and blackboard. With all the various learning needs it, is nearly impossible to be able to reach to all the different learners.
My Project
A classroom projector will allow the ability for all students to learn. Since not everyone is an auditory learner, a projector will target all the various learning needs. With a projector at the center of the classroom, I will be able to maximize the impact of lessons in subjects like math, science, history, reading, and writing. Students will be able to see detailed math equations, look up close at the latest dissections, travel far off to places through the internet, diagram compound sentences on an interactive PowerPoint. A projector can help improve student performance by encouraging greater classroom participation and increase the retention of the content being displayed. Students will get so much more from the curriculum when it's experienced through the brilliance and clarity of a projector.
A projector will allow me to integrate technology in various ways.
It will also allow me to project various items at once in order to help assist various learners. Having something projected on the board will give me time to walk around, observe students work and assist them in order to increase understanding and retention of the concept being taught.
