Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

The purpose of this project is to improve students' academic achievement through the use of technology. Two computers in my classroom will help students read, obtain differentiated individualized math instruction, research, publish, and present their work. As a teacher, I would be able to plan lessons that use unitedstreaming (an educational storehouse of educational videos). These computer videos bring alive, make concrete, and improve lesson delivery in such subjects as science and the study of matter, force and motion, or the planets. Computers will solve the problem of too little individualized instruction with accelerated learning, hands-on activity, and changing abstract ideas into more concrete ones. Computers allow for computer literacy, which is a requirement of our state standards and benchmarks. I have sixteen students. I teach second grade, all subjects. My school serves 350 students, grades K-8, and is located in a large urban school district. Only one of my students has a computer at home. Computers provide multiple paths to academic achievement in all subjects, especially reading language arts.
