My Students

My students are motivated, college bound young adults, and while many of them have the perseverance and knowledge to perform well, not all of them can afford graphing calculators. Therefore, I must ensure they can experience the use of technology in class.

By having TI-nspires, I (and the other math teachers) will be able to provide hands on activities from Algebra 1 through our AP courses.

The additional advantage of the charging carts that allow the teacher to load datasets or files on a set of 10 calculators at a time, ensures that more teachers will take advantage of the resource and class time will be spent on investigating and analyzing rather than on entering data sets.

My Project

* Students need to work with technology individually in order to learn when to use it, how to use it, and when it is best left alone. The TI-nspire has capabilities that make it a powerful tool in algebra 1 through AP Calculus and AP statistics.

* The Motion Sensor will allow students in all levels of math to visualize rates of change.

* The charging dock will allow teachers to upload investigations, data, or graphs to 10 calculators at a time- freeing class time for math instead of data entry.

* Not all of our student population has internet connectivity or the resources to purchase a personal graphing calculator. The class sets will level the "learning field" so the disadvantaged students also have access to powerful technology.
