I work as a Speech-Language Pathologist (or Speech teacher, as the kids call me) in the NYC Department of Education. I service a variety of students, from Pre-K through 5th grade. The school I work in is considered a Title I school, which means that we have a large number of students who come from low-income households. Starting from the middle of last school year, into this 2020-2021 academic year, my students and I have been on a roller coaster of emotions! I am trying my best to support them while they spend their days learning at home.
My students are curious, insightful, and creative!
They all learn through different modalities. They love (and benefit from) hands-on activities that are engaging! They also rely heavily on teacher's models. Though learning for them is difficult when we are in-person, remote learning has been an even bigger challenge for some of these kids! I am so proud of them for all of their accomplishments despite their difficulties!
My Project
A new laptop will help my students have more functional Speech therapy sessions. They will be able to see me better, as image quality will be improved, and there will be less lagging during our video sessions.
Students will be able to see modeled work with actual pens/markers and paper, which they heavily rely on while eliminating tech difficulties that are frequently encountered while typing/highlighting in digital documents.
An iPad and Osmo (projector) will allow me to provide opportunities for more "hands-on" learning.
The products I have selected will enhance my student's remote learning experiences!
