I have been a special education teacher in a diverse and urban school community for five years. I just started my third year as a resource specialist teacher. What makes my classroom special is that my students are always provided with equal learning opportunities and I never allow my students to give up on themselves. I always push my students to do well and encourage them to keep trying their best no matter how many tries it takes them. My students are absolutely dedicated and passionate about learning in the special education setting.
I want to teach my students to change their mindsets from "I can't" to "I can".
Throughout the few years that I've been teaching, I have met all sorts of students who have all helped me grow to become the teacher that I am today and I thank them every day for that. I have learned that different students learn in different ways and my students learn to adapt their learning styles so that they can continue learning new things. Then they can have the most valuable and versatile learning experience in my classroom.
My Project
My students are very receptive and learn more effectively with technology. I want to increase their passion to learn by teaching them how to use technology to learn important STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) that goes beyond the typical reading the textbook method. This Dell Inspiron laptop will give my students hands-on technology experiences so that they learn beyond just reading just the textbook. By encouraging our students to learn using technological skills, I'll keep my students engaged. They'll be motivated to see their most creative ideas come to life through technology and digital communication.
Visual Learning through technology gives students hands-on access to information outside the classroom and lets them visual see and learn different methods of learning.
Our classroom needs a laptop because we are unable to give every student their own to use. Five students have to share one laptop and that limits their time with the laptop per student and cuts into their learning. This hinders their ability to access the curriculum also. Student will be using Code.org and Engineering, Go for It! (eGFI) software to conduct STEM based experiments without the mess and make as many experiment as they want while learning STEM skills. My student struggle with math concepts and so they can use the Khan Academy on the laptop where instructions can be visually shown and repeated as many times as they need to help them learn the new math concepts they learn. That's why I hope to have another laptop in the classroom so that more students have access to technology so that they all have equal time and opportunity to learn.
