A typical day in my classroom involves working with students of varied abilities and levels of background knowledge. I am challenged to provide authentic learning opportunities that get students excited about math.
My classroom is made up of students that have skills below, at and above grade level.
Some students are very privileged; however, many are at or near poverty level. The home life of many of my students can't support the higher-level thinking involved in this content area. Therefore, in the classroom, I try to provide resources and technology for students to use daily. I want students to have experiences that will enable them to be successful in future careers and/or college.
My Project
My students will be using the ipad minis to access online resources such as manipulatives and activities for enrichment and intervention. Students will be able to work collaboratively on the ipads to complete problems through google docs. They will also be able to project their problem-solving strategies and solutions from their ipad to our classroom projector to share with their classmates. We are also working with a new math program this year that has many online resources, assessments and reteaching problems that students can login and complete in class. Having the ipad minis makes these programs accessible to the students daily.
Technology is the way of the future and students are so much more engaged when they are able to tie technology in with their everyday learning.
If this project can help students to be more engaged, focused and excited about math, they will be so much more successful in my classroom and beyond.
