The majority of my students are from very low-income families, and many lack computers at home. About half of my students did not attend preschool, so this is their first year to attend school. My students are 5-6 years old and are eager to learn!
My students are learning to read, write, do mathematics, science, as well as use technology.
For most, this has been their first opportunity to use iPads. They amaze me by how quickly they have learned to use the applications on their iPads!
My Project
My school district purchased enough iPads for each elementary student to use at school. My classroom has a iPad cart with 20 iPads. However, the ear buds my students have been using cause many problems for young students. The wires break easily and the students have trouble keeping the ear buds in place in their ears.
The children need a way to hear their iPads while in use without disturbing the other people.
Headphones would be extremely helpful, since they would be more durable than ear buds. Nearly all of their ear buds broke long ago, and now all we have are five old headphones from the library, which are not sized for young children. They are too big for my students, so it's a struggle trying to keep the headphones on their heads.
My students look forward to using the iPads to practice reading skills, listen to books on EPIC, share their work with their parents with SeeSaw, record each other retelling stories using puppets, and find creative ways to use ChatterPix. They look forward to using iPads, but the headphone situation in my room causes them to frequently have to wait for some to become available. Having a classroom set of headphones would help my students tremendously! I plan to use these headphones with my future students, and would like to have enough for all 20 iPads in the cart, please. My class size tends to vary from year to year.
