I have an enthusiastic, intelligent group of students that enjoy working on projects and showing off their technology skills when I am able to bring them to the lab. I teach Language Arts and Social Studies, along with an AVID class. They love working together in groups of 3 to 4 students.
Our school population is about 60 percent free and reduced-price lunch.
I have students from all walks of life which makes for a very rich cultural environment. They are very interested in learning through technology and each other. I believe in teaching through group participation because most students do not do well with just having material presented through lecture style.
They love when we do group projects and they are able to put together great presentations using programs such as PowerPoint or Prezi. They teach each other aspects of the topics we are covering.
My Project
By having Chromebooks in my classroom students can put together projects with more detail because we are not rushing in the computer lab. We are limited to times and days in the school labs and many times it does not work for using time effectively. I have my students broken down into 8 groups and this way each group would be able to have their own Chromebook and create presentations or write essays or their poetry books.
Having Chromebooks in my classroom would help the students use technology in this modern era.
The area lacking at our school is that we live in Silicon Valley, yet our kids have very little access to that technology. We want to them to have an advantage of having been brought through the school system in Silicon Valley, which currently does not exist in terms of technology. This is the most frustrating part for me as a teacher, not having basic technology because of funding.
